At about the age of 15 years he professed faith in Christ and was baptized into the fellowship of the Pleasant Point Baptist Church. On March 25, 1900, he was married to Miss Lillie Carter, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. B.J. Carter. Rev. J.S. Sparks officiated at the wedding. Five children, three daughters and two sons, were born to them. Buck was ordained a deacon by the Hill City Baptist Church in the summer of 1902. He served as Superintendent of the Sunday School of his church for many years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the greater part of his adult life Mr. Cross was a farmer and public school teacher, although for a few years he and a friend operated a general merchandise store in Hill City. At the annual session in 1907 he was elected Clerk of Paluxy Association and for 13 consecutive years he served in that capacity. In the fall of 1919 he moved with his family to Childress County.
