John Wesley Huggins was born in Florida on August 8, 1875, and came to Texas with his family at the age of nine. He was converted and baptized at Fall Creek. On May 8, 1889, he married Miss Georgia Fritz. Two children, a son and a daughter, were born to them but both died in infancy. They moved to Oklahoma probably about 1900 and then to New Mexico.

Early in life Wesley felt the call to preach, but resisted the call. In 1907 the church at Quay, New Mexico, voted to license him to preach without any suggestion from him. He preached for three years before the church at Lloyd called for his ordination. He was ordained on January 30, 1910. The presbytery was composed of J.W. Lowing, H.P. Haley, and W.P. Weeks. For the next seven years he served as pastor of several small churches in New Mexico. In 1917 they moved to Arkansas, and two years later came back to Hood County, where he served as pastor of several of the smaller churches until failing health made it necessary for him to retire. His earthly labors ended in Tolar July 30, 1949. The memorial service was conducted by Rev. L.H. Davis and Rev. R.I. O'Neal.
