1926 LIPAN BANK ROBBERY
Granbury News - March 5, 1926
Sheriff Larned returned Monday afternoon from Camden, Ark., with Fred Stratton, alias Robert Bernard, wanted here in connection with the daylight robbery of the First National Bank of Lipan, which occurred a few weeks ago. Stratton was captured along with Chas. and John Roberts, two others implicated in the robbery, but the two later escaped jail about 10 days ago and have not been recaptured.
A fourth man was of the party, but has a long criminal record in Texas, having escaped from the penitentiary for burglary, theft and concealing stolen property, having been sent up from Navarro and Freestone counties.
A number of Lipan citizens, including bank officials, came down Tuesday and a number of them positively identified Stratton as one of the robbers. These parties appeared before the grand jury and it understood the testimony brought out will result in indictments against all those engaged in the robbery.
