Andrew Jackson Luttrell was born December 15, 1831 in Randolph County, Arkansas. He was the youngest child of James & Mary (Polly) Luttrell.

When Andrew Jackson Luttrell was about 13 years old his father died. John Andrew Luttrell became the guardian of his 2 younger brothers, Shelton Whitson Luttrell and Andrew Jackson Luttrell.

Andrew Jackson Luttrell married Amanda Reynolds, on June 10, 1858, in Randolph County, Arkansas, at the home of her father, James Madison "Mattie" Reynolds.

Amanda Reynolds and Andrew Jackson Luttrell had one child who lived to adulthood, James Madison Luttrell. James Madison Luttrell was born in 1859.

Two sons of Andrew & Amanda's, Thomas and Marcus, died young. Amanda Reynolds was born November 18, 1837 in Illinois. She died May 7, 1866, in Randolph County, Arkansas. She was buried in the Nelson Clay Cemetery.

Andrew Jackson Luttrell was in the Civil War. He was in a Company called Kelsey's Volunteers. This company was from Lawrence County, Arkansas.

I sent for A.J. Luttrell's Civil War records. Here is what I received:

Luttrell, A.J. Company Kelsy's 1st Arkansas Vols. Private Confederate 1 Ark., Muster Roll of Capt. A. G. Kelsy's Co., of Volunteer, Infantry, raised in response to Col. Borland's call of Nov. 5; mustered into the Confederate service Nov. 18 for 30 days and discharged Dec. 18, 1861; entitled to pay from date of muster to the time set opposite their respective names and to transportation and subsistence from Pocahontas to _____, Ark.______.

(Joy's note: Pochahontas is in Randolph County, so I guess he did not get any transportation money.)

A.J. Luttrell, Company 3 Reg't Missouri Vols. July 15, 1862 - Oct. 31, 1862 (Muster Roll).

A.J. Luttrell Company G, 9 Reg't Missouri Infantry March & April 1863 & April 30 to Aug. 31, 1863.

A.J. Luttrell Company G 12 Regt. Missouri Infantry Jan. & Feb. 1864.

A.J. Lutrell Co. F, 10 Reg't Consolidated Mo. Inf. Roll of Prisoners of War - surrendered at New Orleans, La May 26, 1865. Paroled at Shreveport, La., June 8, 1865.

Luttrell, A.J. Pvt. Co. __, 10 Reg't Mo Confederate Medical card numbers 51751681 C.H. A. General Hospital, Shreveport, Louisiana. March 31, 1864 - April 6, 1864. ___? Jefferson, Texas Hospital

All these files were hard to read.

Andrew Jackson Luttrell's second wife was Mrs. Elizabeth C. (Betty) Iles Brewen (Brewin) who was the daughter of James T. Iles and Margaret Morrow.

Elizabeth Iles was born March 1848 in Fredericktown, Madison County, Missouri. Elizabeth Iles first married William Martin VanBuren Brewen. W.M.V. Brewen died in the Civil War. This couple had one child, William Martin Brewen. William Martin Brewen was born in 1866 in Illinois.

Andrew Jackson Luttrell & Elizabeth Iles Brewen had a son Andrew W. Luttrell who was born November 21, 1870 and died August 12, 1872 in Randolph County, Arkansas.

They had a son John R. Luttrell who was born in 1872 and died in 1873, in Randolph County, Arkansas. They had another son Edwin B. Luttrell who was born February 13, 1874 in Arkansas.

The Andrew Jackson Luttrell family moved by wagon train to Hood County, Texas around 1877. It is known that they stayed a while in Dallas, Texas, before coming to Hood County, Texas. It is documented that Andrew's brother came by train to visit them in Dallas, Texas in the mid-1870's.

After coming to Texas, Andrew Jackson Luttrell & Elizabeth C. (Betty) Iles Brewen Luttrell had son Oscar E. Luttrell who was born July 28, 1876. They also had a daughter, Ida "May" Luttrell, who was born in 1879 the same year her father, Andrew Jackson Luttrell died on October 8, 1879. He was buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Lipan, Texas.

Edwin B. Luttrell died September 21, 1894 in Hood County, Texas. He was buried in the Evergreen Cemetery. Oscar E. Luttrell died June 23, 1906 in Hood County, Texas and was also buried in Evergreen Cemetery.

James Madison Luttrell, son of Amanda Reynolds and Andrew Jackson Luttrell married Nora Bell Doughten in Hood County, Texas. She was the daughter of John Thomas Doughten & Missouri Annie Iles. Missouri Annie Iles was the sister of Elizabeth C. Iles Brewen Luttrell. James Madison Luttrell and Nora Bell Doughten were married November 26, 1893 in Hood County, Texas. They had sons, John Andrew Luttrell who was born November 6, 1894 in Hood County, Texas and Eddie Luttrell who was born June 10, 1897.

John Thomas Doughten was a Justice of the Peace in Precinct No. 2 in Hood County, Texas. He married Missouri Annie Iles on October 11, 1874 in Randolph County, Arkansas. Their children were: Mary Dixie, Nora Bell, Charles William, Maggie Mae, John Thomas Jr., Edward, Ethel Emma, Jeff, and Annie Myrtle.

Ida "May" Luttrell, daughter of Andrew Jackson Luttrell and Elizabeth C. (Betty) Iles Brewen Luttrell, first married William H. Smith on July 9, 1896 in Hood County, Texas. William is thought to be the son of Zechariah Smith. Ida "May" Luttrell Smith's second husband was William A. Beasley. They were married July 25, 1907 in Hood County, Texas.

The James Madison Luttrell family moved to Fort Worth, Texas where son John Andrew Luttrell married Velma Dell Terry. Velma was the daughter of Daniel C. Terry and Belle Jett. James Madison & Nora Bell Doughten Luttrell's son Eddie married Mrs. Addie "Pearl" Mote Turnbow. The Mote family was from Dublin, Texas.

James Madison Luttrell died February 1938 in Mansfield, Texas, and his wife Nora Bell Doughten Luttrell died November 1967. They were both buried in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas.

John Andrew Luttrell, son of James Madison Luttrell & Nora Bell Doughten, died March 13, 1967 in Walnut Creek, California. He was buried in Lafayette, California. Velma Dell Terry Luttrell, wife of John Andrew Luttrell, died May 8, 1993 in Grants Pass, Oregon. She was buried in Lafayette, California.

Eddie Luttrell, son of James Madison Luttrell and Nora Bell Doughten died July 1979 in Fort Worth, Texas; and his wife, Mrs. Addie "Pearl" Mote Turnbow Luttrell, died May 18, 1988 in Stephenville, Texas. They were both buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas.
