The Lake Granbury Art Association will have new "digs" come Aug. 1 when they move into the historic Shanley building.

The Shanley building is the two-story rock building, which was named for the Shanley Kitchen Cabinet factory in the late 1800s. Since the late 1970s, the Hood County senior citizens' center has been housed in the Shanley building and the adjacent American Legion Hall on Travis St.

The Hood County Committee on Aging will be moving to their new building in July, vacating the Shanley building which is owned by the Hood County Bicentennial Commission.

The commission received applications from numerous Hood County non-profit groups requesting the space. The commission chose the art association mainly because of their financial capabilities to maintain the historic structure, according to Jerry Campbell, commission member.

"In our (the commission's) opinion, the financial ability was critical," stated Campbell. "The art association is ready to come in and help maintain the building, leaving the green space of Shanley Park as the commission has been utilizing it-family picnics, weddings, etc."

The art association plans to name the location the "Shanley House Center for the Arts" and will be a place for all Hood County artists to meet, have demonstration, workshops and display art to the public.

The art association and the Shanley building will be part of the 4^th of July art walk scheduled for Saturday, July 3 through Monday, July 5.
