It is well maintained, secluded, quiet and shaded by many oak trees. It is enclosed by a chainlink fence with two gateways allowing automobile traffic to drive around the area.

There are many graves from the 1800’s. The earliest marked is 1869. Epitaphs are often lengthy with “Killed by Indians,” “Murdered,” and “Founders of Thorp Spring” included. Add Ran College located in this town at a very early date. It brought many settlers here for educational purposes. Add Ran is found mentioned on a number of headstones.

It is regrettable that there are as many graves well marked by fieldstones only. Vandalism has taken it’s toll; so one must wonder how many stones have been carried away. Sadly, the vandals are still at work today. Nature has proven to be a vandal as well. Some stones are wearing away.

To drive to the cemetery from Granbury, take Hwy #4 north. At the 900 turn as you approach the town watch for streets to your left. At the third street turn to the left. (Streets have no names.) Drive for .6 miles to the end of the road. The cemetery is on the left.

This survey was made in August, 1990 by Jo Ann & Dustin Massey, Dorothy Depew and myself. It took a great deal of effort because of the condition of so many markers. They were very difficult to read; so please, excuse the errors. Some may be found.
Mary Kate Durham

ABBOTT, J. You have omitted my gr gr grandfather, Berry Russell, 11 January 1812 – 7 October 1870. The dates were not visible due to the stone sinking in the ground. But his name was clearly visible. I was there in 1990 and took pictures of the grave. It is by the graves of Laura O’Brien, H. R. Meeks, and Major Waldrip and Rebecca. Mildred Thorman of Lipan had audited the cemetery many years ago and still had her unpublished list. I called her from my motel there in Granbury and she furnished the dates and location of the grave. It seems to me that it would be a good idea to obtain her list, if you can.

Thank you, Joy Shaw of Tulsa

Hood County, Texas Surveyed Completed August, 1990 By: Mary Kate Durham, Jo Ann & Dustin Massey, Dorothy Depew The following cemetery listing was scanned from:Hood County Genealogical Society Newsletter No. 28; November 1990 & No. 29, February 1991 Editor: Merle … Continue reading →

[13

post-1172","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-cemetary
["GET
