Gene B. Hadley was born April 13, 1930, in Tennessee. He was “born again” in the First Baptist Church, Covington, Tennessee, in 1939 and baptized by Dr. Preston L. Ramsey. On July 12, 1957, he was married to Miss Margaret Reaves of Memphis, Tennessee. Two daughters, Rebekah Lynn and Sarah Catherine, were born to them.
Gene was ordained to the work of the ministry in the First Baptist Church, Covington, Tennessee. The ordaining council was composed of Dr. A.H. Hicks, Dr. Wesley L. Bowden, Dr. Robert Orr, Mr. W.R. Eckford, Mr. Hays E. Owen, and Mr. Robert Simonton. He has served as pastor of two churches in Tennessee, one in Arkansas, and the First Baptist Church, Granbury, Texas. He received his college training at Union University, Jackson, Tennessee, and his theological training at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, from which institution he has received both Bachelor and Master of Divinity degrees. At the annual session in 1970 he was elected Moderator of Paluxy Association and has presided over four annual sessions. He was served as Chairman of the Area Committee of Trinity-Brazos Area, and as a member of the Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
