MARGARET SUSAN DUMAS 1903 – 2000

Margaret “Maggie” Brazell Neely of Tolar died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000 in Comanche. She was 97.

Mrs. Neely (Margaret Susan Dumas) was born Oct. 16, 1903 in Tolar. She was the daughter of David Alexander and Mary Susan Evaline Brown Dumas. She was the last surviving member of a pioneer family. Her mother, grandfather and great-grandfather settled in Hood County in 1870. She graduated from Tolar High School in 1923 and was the last surviving member of her graduation class. She was a member of the Tolar Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Beatrice Sutherlin; one son, David Brazell; one grandson, John Chapman; first husband, Alvin Merrill Brazell; and second husband, James Dwight Neely.

She is survived by three daughters, Betty Kizer of Fort Worth, Pauline Oaks of Stephenville and Donna Chapman of Comanche; one son, Alvin Brazell of Midland; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services were Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000 in Martin’s Funeral Home Chapel in Granbury. Her grandchildren, Paul Chapman, Joyce Pinkerton, Diane Smith and Kim Trusty were joined by her son-in-law, James Chapman in conducting the service. Burial was in Stroud’s Creek Cemetery in Tolar. Martin’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
