BILL ARCHER

Bill Archer was born in Memphis, Texas, December 19, 1929. He was converted in April of 1942 in the First Baptist Church of Memphis and was baptized by the pastor, Rev. S.F. Martin. He accepted the call to the ministry March 21, 1962, and was ordained to the full work of the ministry a week later, March 28, 1962. The ordaining council was composed of Martin Kennedy, Moderator; Eugene Alford, Clerk; J.W. Miler, Interrogator; W.C. Gilbert; William James, J.B. Phelps, J.D. Sims; Herbert Dozier; J.P. Morgan and Ed Hatfield. The ordination sermon was delivered by W.C. Gilbert. The new preacher preached his first sermon April 4, 1962. He has served four churches as pastor: First Baptist Church, La Luz, New Mexico; Southside Baptist Church, Granbury, Texas; New Light Baptist Church, Elyria, Ohio, and First Southern Baptist Church, Canyon City, Colorado, where he is presently pastor. While pastor of Southside Baptist Church, Granbury, he was elected Moderator and served two terms, 1968 and 1969.

Brother Archer received his college training in Mars Hill College, Mars Hill, North Carolina, the University of Texas, Austin, Texas, and Texas Wesleyan College, Fort Worth, Texas. His seminary work was done in Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

On June 20, 1953, he was married to Miss Jeannine Miller. They are the parents of four daughters and one son.
