OBITUARY

Carl Dean Ator, 75, a longtime resident of Okmulgee, died Saturday, October 20, 2001 in Tulsa. He was born on Monday, November 25, 1925 in Lipan, Texas to Floyd J. and Larrinda Ellen (Self) Ator.

He came to Okmulgee in 1951 from Woodward, Oklahoma, and married his wife, Lorene Gasaway on August 22, 1952 in Okmulgee. He served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He received his B.A. degree from O.S.U. Stillwater and a Masters degree from Northeastern State University in 1979. He was a retired educator who spent his early years in education teaching Agriculture at O.S.U. Okmulgee. He later taught at Beggs, Nuyaka and Schulter schools. He served as Agriculturalist for Creek Nation under Chief Claude Cox; Manager of the Parkin Hatchery in Shawnee; and Judge for the American Poultry Association. He was a longtime active member of the Church of Christ of Okmulgee.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene of the home; one son, Floyd D. Ator and wife, Sandy of Okmulgee; one daughter, Marion Colombin and husband, Jeff of Okmulgee; one sister, Alma Payne and husband, Don of Bedford, Texas; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 24, 2001 at the Church of Christ in Okmulgee with Jack Shock officiating. Burial will be in at the Evergreen Cemetery in Lipan, Texas on Thursday, October 25, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. Floyd Jones will officiate. Services under the direction of the Kelley Funeral Home.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 23, 2001 from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Pallbearers are Charlie Cargill, Clifford Reeve, Ben Hamilton, Vernon Himes and Doyle Sluder.
