Jefferson Davis (J. D.) Brown settled in nearby Acton in 1874. He became sole proprietor of a dry good store known as Brown & Brown. He later moved the business to the Granbury square. Brown’s store was located on the west side of the square, where a bookstore is now located.

In addition to running his own firm, Brown was also president of City National Bank in Granbury, which was also located on the town square. The City National Bank was consolidated with Granbury’s First National Bank in 1928.

Jefferson Davis Brown was born September 2, 1853 and died April 27, 1908. He was buried in the Granbury Cemetery in Hood County, Texas.
