Walter Larned and Don Flynn – Summer of 1911

They were pitcher and catcher for the Stephenville, Tex. baseball team.  As good a battery as could be found in independent baseball.  Walter was “speed” itself on the mound.  Don was tops as catcher.  Not only did Walter throw a fast, fast ball, but he could throw the fastest curve I have ever seen.  No doubt but that he could have gone into organized, league, baseball, but he didn’t think the environment was conducive to being the Christian man that he wanted to be.  He married Lizzie Jackson.  Lived in Granbury until his death.  Serving many years as Co. Clerk of Hood County, Tex.  He was my dear friend.
