G. S. TUMLIN

G.S. Tumlin was born in Bartow County, Georgia, December 16, 1852. He received his training in Bowden College and the State University, receiving the A.B., A.M., B.L. and D.D. degrees. He also studied in Bryant and Stratton Business College. He united with the Baptist Church of Cartersville, Georgia, in 1872. During the year 1877 he was licensed to preach and also ordained in the same church. For a few years he practiced law and also served as County Judge. In 1874 he was married to Miss Alice Gilbreath. Nine children were born to this union.

He served several country churches in Bartow County, Georgia, and later was pastor at Marietta and La Grange. In 1895 he moved to Texas and was pastor of some of the larger churches, including Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth. While pastor of the First Baptist Church of Granbury, he was elected Moderator of Paluxy Association and served that one term.
