OBITUARY
Mac Griff McConal of Granbury, a retired cattle auction company owner and teacher, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000 in Glen Rose. He was 97.
Mr. McConal was born May 13, 1903 in Bastrop. He was the son of William and Nettie Barrow McConal. He married Pattie Belle Cockerell July 2, 1930 in Mills County. He was a member and elder in the Glen Rose Church of Christ.
He owned the first cattle company in Austin and taught school in west Texas for several years. He was a graduate of Thorp Spring Christian College, where he played right halfback on the football team. He was active in the Glen Rose community and was named citizen of the year in the 1960’s. During World War II he received a deferment from military service because of his ability to raise cattle and hogs used to feed the troops.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Pattie Belle McConal of Granbury; two sons, Mack McConal and wife Shirley of Cross Plains, and Jon McConal and wife Jane of Granbury; five grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are today (Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000) at 4 p.m. in the Wiley Funeral Home Chapel in Granbury with Rev. Frankie Harris officiating. Burial will be in Holly Hills Memorial Park in Granbury. Wiley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
