HERBERT E. O’NEAL 1905 – 1980

Herbert E. O’Neal was born in Madisonville, Texas, September 6, 1905. He was “born again” at Cisco, Texas, October 1928, and was baptized by Rev. A.C. Miller at the First Baptist Church of Cisco. He was ordained as deacon at the First Baptist Church of Granbury during the month of August 1950. He served his church as Superintendent of the Sunday School and in almost any way in which a layman could serve.

On October 27, 1927, he was married to Miss Jewell Lewallen. Four children were born to them, with three living to adulthood and raising families.

For several years Brother O’Neal served as Associational Sunday School Superintendent in Paluxy Association. In 1963 he was elected Treasurer of the Association and served faithfully in this capacity for nine years. Although unable to attend the annual session in 1972 he was reelected. However, his health did not permit him to serve in that office.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, and at one time Master of the Granbury Lodge. For many years he was a faithful employee in the government Soil Conservation Service.

The Lord called him home July 17, 1980. The memorial service was conducted in the First Baptist Church of Granbury, which had been his beloved church home for many years. The service was conducted by his pastor, Rev. Gene B. Hadley and a former pastor, Rev. W.W. Baker. Interment was in the Granbury Cemetery with Masonic ritual and honors.
